I do appreciate that they have a 3rd party FDroid repo, so that's a point in their favor. I take it they're not qualified to get included in to main repo? I know that requires using 100% open source libraries, which is a standard that many "open-source" apps still fail to meet.

I understand it's a hard problem with a device that isn't always, an app that could get backgrounded at any time and so on. But I'm not going to recommend it unless it's extremely reliable. If you say those issues are behind us now, I'll give it another go.

It's absurdly easy to grow in Illinois. I'm told that if you don't contain the roots for 18-24" down, it'll try to take over. A couple buckets with the bottoms cut off will do the trick. We grew some harvested it and then failed to divide/process it and get it back in the ground. It came up the next year anyway because there was apparently some roots that we didn't get when harvesting. I think we just bought some organic horseradish at the grocery store and stuck it in the ground to get started. Hopefully we'll be able to get a harvest this year and actually process it into some food.

All apples processed and the last batch is drying now. $30 + about 4.5 hours of labor for what will be about 4 pounds of apple chips. A little cheaper than commercial apple chips, depending on how I value my time, but more importantly, I know I have the tools and skills to be self sufficient. I can get apples from a local orchard. The local ones are more expensive than the discount ones from the grocery store, but there's no long supply chain. I don't even use gasoline to get there, I can just bike over.
