Not for nothing, but half or more of the influencers in Bitcoin are busy pushing compromised shit like Liquid, Spark, custodial lightning, loans, non-airgapped signers, and so much other shit that the idea that most Bitcoiners would be the best at using freedom tech would be a very surprising proposition. We're all hellbent on making people not need to use freedom tech. Of course they don't learn to do it.

You must not have my wife and 3 dogs. Even with my kid gone for a week I still maybe get 8 hours once a week. I legit suggested we get a tiny house in the back yard for me to sleep in. I don't see Saylor getting liquidated. I see STRC's dividend getting unpaid, going to near zero, and the Bitcoin just turning into an inert mass of Bitcoin that doesn't grow or shrink. He doesn't have enough real debt to get liquidated at this point. Just equity that has no recourse to do anything but firesell. He'll be fine. Shareholders are the ones going down this time.

It's not impossible. But I do think mechanic is very sure about how f2pool antpool and a few others will act in a very narrow window of time which just doesn't seem to be very grounded in facts. In math? Perhaps. But these are humans. Simply taking their eyes off the ball for half an hour would be sufficient to put 110 behind by a few blocks, effectively burying it. Could one or two get cute and reorg from there? Yes, it's possible. Better make it quick though especially if you want that market value to cover the electricity bills amid the chaos. It's weird that nostr:nprofile1qqs8fl79rnpsz5x00xmvkvtd8g2u7ve2k2dr3lkfadyy4v24r4k3s4spz9mhxue69uhkummnw3ezuamfdejj7qg4waehxw309aex2mrp0yhxgctdw4eju6t09uqsuamnwvaz7tmwdaejumr0dshsu0ur8h 's whole gameplan is to rely on mining centralization to get this across the finish line. It might work, and I'm not taking price exposure either way, but I'd be surprised if it does. Guess worst case scenario we activate a bad minority fork and hilight just how dangerous centralized mining is. Another 'everything is good for Bitcoin' scenario.

There are 144 blocks in a day on average. Yes. Thankfully, I don't think it will even get a chance for us to risk the dangers this attack would otherwise pose if it actually held support. Mechanic's theories of everyone jumping in last minute notwithstanding. But we'll all see around August 7. And then perhaps get back to more serious methods of ensuring Bitcoin's future as money, such as covenants. Because spam or no spam, with 8 billion people, even monetary transactions crowd out monetary transactions at some point, even with Lightning.

Intellectual property is a legal fiction. That said if I'd ever zap music that wasn't from the artist, I'm zapping the person for putting it in front of me, and not paying what I'd pay an artist for creating it. Both have their place. I'm no defender of 110 and I get why not everyone's so big on mempool filters depending on how you approach your expectations of them, but curious as to why you'd view OCEAN as an attack. Seems like most mining pools are an attack through centralized template creation and that OCEAN addresses this issue through DATUM. Stratum v2 may be better but doesn't really seem quite there yet. Anyway, yea, good faith reasons, how is OCEAN an attack?

I'm not sure how deep I've seen a write up go. I'd expect a write up on Frost to be more readily available, and then the info on frostr.org to understand where it's different, and where there are things that may not have quite been mapped over, such as tools for distributed key generation. Such as this one: https://eprint.iacr.org/2020/852.pdf It's basically an application of Shamir's secret sharing which conceivably can be used both on the nsec and an xpriv. I've been doing more chatting with AI about it and other nested key variants to understand differences. Some of those actually do seem better for just Bitcoin but Frost seems to hit the sweet spot of working well for both Nostr and Bitcoin. That all said, I'm no cryptographer, just really curious about what can be done, with a penchant for bringing up ideas like this hoping someone who does know what they're doing might run with them.

Moving coins is definitely not enough. Coinjoins and lightning swaps can go a long way of course. There is always still the concern though that you did visibly buy bitcoin, and if it was a large enough amount to be interesting, well, nobody's gonna believe you just spent it all on zaps and shit at the farmer's market on a Square terminal. Non-kyc methods of purchase should always be something we are driving forward -- Vexl, Bisq, Hodl Hodl, Robosats, and you know, actually transacting goods and services for bitcoin. nostr:npub1vwymuey3u7mf860ndrkw3r7dz30s0srg6tqmhtjzg7umtm6rn5eq2qzugd A few thoughts about your idea of a quantum ready fork: The mining factor seems to be the biggest reason this is unlikely to work even if we wanted it to. The difficulty adjustment would, at the time of the split, be set based on our >1 ZH/s, and it's unlikely that we'd have anything close to that much available. I suppose it might be feasible to look at merge mining, but merge mining here would have all of the same centralization concerns it has elsewhere that it is used. Even if we handle this, manually setting the difficulty lower (assuming this can be done, I'm decidedly not a coder), there's the matter of what block you fork from. Because of course anyone who transacts after the split can then go use their coins on the other fork, and while we wait for a quantum attack, the chains have time to diverge heavily. You could consider splitting AFTER a quantum attack, with a roll back, a la Ethereum Classic (gross...), but even this assumes you recognize an attack as a quantum attack and not just someone losing their keys. There is no reason to assume that they would be foolish enough to make it this obvious, as it'd be much more sensible to appear to just be someone losing their keys. The latest episode of nostr:npub1pxyknnjeme22kekzd2fj5dasrezgv23wx026ae5rqa74h8pc7j7sn57nke actually had some very good thoughts on how to address quantum. I don't think it's quite as close (or likely to ever happen) as Danny's guest, but I do think his proposed actions as if it were are a sane approach. Rolling out these proposed fixes on Testnet, Signet, etc, and then encouraging people who aren't devs to actually USE these systems to really give it some testing makes a lot of sense. Hard to incentivize this given that testnet tokens are decidedly worthless, but perhaps wallets that put it a little more front and center as a way to help new people to Bitcoin learn their way around without putting real money at risk wouldn't be the worst thing anyway. I get your rationale for considering a fork, but yea, logistically I don't think it could quite work out as well as you'd like. It might shut up the retards because they'd be too retarded to see why it shouldn't, but in terms of actually fixing anything I think it'd miss the mark. And meanwhile, building things for retards is a really good way to waste a lot of time and energy.

I didn't say don't buy MSTR. I asked if he addressed the reasons for not doing so. As with most portfolio matters, it boils down to sizing. But the risks to common stock in a levered company involve layers upon layers of counterparty risk, including the very real risk of government seizure. And the Sharpe ratio disparity is night and day. They're two wildly different roles in a portfolio. One is bedrock. The other is a high risk speculative position. You'd think someone who sells more MSTR than anyone would be able to articulate this. Especially on an interview about why buying Bitcoin makes so much sense.

Actually, you can do covenants, using PIPEs (Polynomial Inner Product Encryption), ColliderScript, and a handful of other methods. Soft forks would be more streamlined and trustless, and in the case of ColliderScript, a LOT cheaper.

Debian's packaging seems fine until you use something that isn't insane. Then you wonder why everyone puts up with it. The idea that dependency hell is even possible is wild. Systemd is an obnoxious pile of crap, but Debian's implementation of sysvinit was so bad it almost seemed sensible to switch. But at the end of the day there's nothing 'Unix like' about systemd's philosophy of "do all the things, use binary blobs, and do most of them in a fairly half assed manner." I somewhat sympathize with the sysadmin side of things where systemd can handle scaling things in certain ways, but I'm not sitting on a computer lab. And yea...Ubuntu inherits both of these. I also just don't love the whole 'let's make everything easy by hiding it from the user.' In my experience it's a great way to create users that can't dig themselves out of the situation when things break. Slackware, if you ask me, is as simple as it needs to be, and likely, an be, without crossing that line. All that said, the 'user friendly' distro when I started using Linux was Mandrake. And I can say this nice thing about Ubuntu: it's not Mandrake 😄.

There's a few approaches that could be taken here, including hashtag based following (clumsy) and an LLM based DVM fed the heuristics you're looking for. Nothing says a client has to display the npub of the user who posted a note. It's not totally trivial but it's also quite doable to build what you're after.
