FOSSdev, poetry, post-postmodernism. Making distraction-free and privacy-respecting software. Neovim/Rust/Gentoo/Alpine enjoyer. Rarely posting introvert. Anti-"anti": I believe in focusing on what we are rather than on what we are not. Otherwise we become what we are not. ────────────────────────── I enjoy chilled intellectual conversations, preferably dialogues rather than debates 🧠 If we're debating, I care that none of us is overwhelmed by our own stress, care that we're not debating out of our hallucinations about each other's positions 👾 Otherwise, we're engaging in rational debates imitation. We're not on some legacy media platform; nobody can ban anyone, so naive traditionalist-ish ethics don't work here. We're damned to learn how to communicate effectively here without unnecessarily harming each other 🫂 I haven't yet encountered any -ism that would be sound enough with my belief system. If I refer to whatever particular thing some controversial figure has said, that doesn't automatically mean I agree with their entire discourse. Some of the topics I have *opinions* on: 🔐 #Privacy & #Security 🌍 #MeaningCrisis & #MetaTheories & #MetaModernism & #NonReductionistPhilosophy 🪟 #DevelopmentalPsychology & #AQAL & ( #KenWilber vs #DavidLong ) 🦖 #PostModernism 🤖 #AI & #Consciousness & ( #Emergentism vs #Idealism ) 🧘🏻‍♂️ #Meditation & #Creativity & #PostMetaphysical attempts to make sense of inevitable #TransPersonalExperiences ⚪ #Psychedelics & #Nootropics I'm generally open and peaceful ☮️ I might, however, with respect to each other's privacy, occasionally *proportionally* highlight some toxic culty behavior in case of ensuring hard enough that it's damaging to all of us. That's not identical to attempts to overthrow somebody's reputation entirely: I'm normally coming from a position that everybody's sincerely trying to build #freedom here 🗽

I'm impressed by the number of the implemented NIPs. Thanks for building! Interesting. I was looking for a relay written in Rust and skimming over existing sources—nothing felt right just a year ago or so, yet today from those that I liked, I noticed at least: https://github.com/erskingardner/wok https://git.4rs.nl/awiteb/n34-relay.git I see you've got a Blossom server with an optional allow-list as well—this is awesome. The REST API—I think I was missing something like that for some weird problem. It's probably worth creating a NIP. I see you've got an `Error` type for a bunch of things—have you possibly considered using the `anyhow` crate? It's usually adequate for high-level code and helps to get rid of a lot of boring boilerplate. I'm curious, does your relay possibly do something else better compared to competitors? Does it provide proper NIP-42 auth requirement for NIP-59 gift wraps compatible with both NIP-17 and Concord ("p"-tag and "authors"-requested events)? Can I require NIP-42 auth for arbitrary event kinds? Possibly plan to support wot-like write-policy plugins?

Thanks. Yeah, I think FROST generally is the right approach, yet specifically for normies, I don't support incentives of associating a Nostr profile with the one from a centralized system (not like I'm anally against it, yet I personally don't currently accept this thing for my close normie contacts unless a strong enough argument changes my mind). Not even due to privacy and not just due to nostr:npub175nul9cvufswwsnpy99lvyhg7ad9nkccxhkhusznxfkr7e0zxthql9g6w0's trend concerns on this, but because, in the norimes' non-techie minds, I believe this creates the false idea that Google = Nostr profile (no matter what we tell them). What a normie would do if Google suddenly became unavailable for them (due to their profile ban by Google or the entire company ban by government, which has partially happened in Russia already, btw)?—They will think they've lost (access to) their Nostr profile. Next, they will do something stupid out of stress in order to urgently contact their Nostr-only buddies (in practice, they will paste and possibly leak their raw nsec somewhere if they manage to access it). Maybe I'm biased; I'm curious what you think about it. > other protocols, like Simplex or Delta Especially for normies, I think at least implementations of all of them keep being problematic, in particular in terms of UX and censorship resistance; just the SimpleX alone in practice is currently centralized (easy to ban from whatever side, definitely not thousands of servers owned by independent entities), and there's no multi-device sync (also, device linking is unusable): https://github.com/simplex-chat/simplex-chat/issues/444#issuecomment-3168056863 Nostr is a great chance to fix it, yet I agree it's very hard 🖤 > that doesn't go on the bunker seems to be a good enough compromise You mean pasting the nsec/ncryptsec into a client as an exception for now? I strongly believe ordinary clients shouldn't be trusted to store the key; the protection is far from perfect (Ditto is just one example; this could be any native or web client or a proprietary browser or an extension that exploits a browser bug). Also showing to a normie that this practice is acceptable, just in one case, opens it for other scenarios: it's just like you can't teach a child that something is immoral unless you follow your own rule; they copy our actions, not what we think is right.

I like the emphasis on FP + OOP in Ruby. Always felt better than Python. I stopped writing in Ruby after discovering Crystal, though. I use it with shebang even as if it were a scripting language. Crystal is what I wanted from scripting languages: a syntax close to Ruby but with non-annoying type-safety and some type inference (though a bit limited). Concurrency is weird in Crystal, though; it's not ready yet. I never liked higher-order functions' syntax in Ruby, though, and I'm sad that this was blindly copied to Crystal.

There's definitely a tension in the beginning: NIP-17 reliability is not just some meme. Clients are either buggy or/and propose wrong relays by default—this destroys UX in the beginning: nostr:nevent1qqsrpzl9t49xfv7eyvfgqxrclqjs9j4e5dv78u3yn5nh7f09z4c3u8qpz3mhxue69uhhyetvv9ujumn8d96zuer9wcq3samnwvaz7tmwdaehgu3wvdhkgmmwv9n8gtnrdaks6q4j5h Two of my close contacts either ran into exactly this issue or something similar. We don't see these bugs because we know what we do, and we don't normally use such crappy hardware as the cheap Samsung phones (with their custom firmware that always lags from the upstream Android). The problem with singers: bunker:// URI works great, but it's inconvenient to use for somebody who wants to connect from desktop to Amber. nostrconnect:// supposed to fix it, but it appears that clients propose some other relays the user didn't choose; these could be dead/slow/unavailable relays from their location. I ended up writing another starter guide/tool due to all this frustration: https://codonaft.com/nostr-no-bullshit.html > anything that we could do in order for you to do that Mostly optimize for reliability: 1. Test apps on the crappiest of the popular devices. 2. Require clients to allow custom relays to be set in nostrconnect:// 3. Implement semi-automatic migration of dead relays to new ones everywhere: in ordinary clients and in the signers: nostr:nevent1qqsqqqqt4ycwkdh9m8p0t0wcm8xljlg20y9elthe43zevdujlak8r9cprpmhxue69uhkummnw3ezucm0v3hkuctxwshxxmmdqyxhwumn8ghj7mn0wvhxcmmv8dfjj6 4. Get rid of raw nsec/ncryptsec input lines in the ordinary clients entirely—these are overabused, specifically when something fails with NIP-46. Every time somebody pastes their nsec in another slopware, I no longer trust them: I don't consider the DMs to be actually private. nostr:nevent1qqszehp4pflrq2u72h864zdt49q8fzqwgew575zzc8xtxlwtzm9lz6gprpmhxue69uhkummnw3ezucm0v3hkuctxwshxxmmdqy2hwumn8ghj7un9d3shjtnddaehgu3wwp6kyuxc3kh Some NIP could already directly state: "nsec SHOULD never be used directly in clients; NIP-46 and NIP-07 SHOULD be used instead". It's like the actual example of why we SHOULD use uppercase SHOULD sometimes—to show how stupid we were by allowing it to do otherwise.

NIP-59 gift wrap currently requires NIP-42 auth on clients (but not on relays), yet I don't see any reason to not require the auth on relays too if gift wrap was requested (at least by default). Using this link I was able to find a post that doesn't even mention the word "preteen" and still there was a lolicon picture. How does it work? Just in case if there anyone could be confused in the thread already: as far as I understood, lolicon/shotacon is considered as exactly the same category as real video recorded child porn, from around ~2019, in some/many countries (correct me if I got it wrong, I'm not a lawyer). Quite ironically, I learned that accidentally due to this guy just very recently: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jGdyMx4dZQ0 I'm so out of time, not seeing a lot of things from the pre/post-COVID period. That's a perfect example for this meme; those who possibly mindlessly store some humorous drawn material that could be interpreted as cp—beware that some corrupt police officer may use it against you: https://image.nostr.build/f70843415ab74ac8e93c4a5769ec931196ab2b0b64f5b772acd285447e54f4d8.jpg To be clear, I don't support sexual behavior and especially violence towards people of pre-consent age. Another trivial anti-spam solution some clients could implement is just hiding *by default* all muted/reported by OP comments (and providing the "show hidden messages" button): everyone moderates their own thread, and nobody's actually censored. Could be useful during spam waves, at least as an option. The disadvantage is that mutes/reports are still possible due to non-spammy subjective reasons, of course. Yet in abusive scenarios, it's still possible to start your own thread that quotes a message by somebody who muted you—others will see and possibly repost your message. #spam #devstr

wss://relay.damus.io appears to be still dead and alive at the same time. I think that manual maintenance of relay lists could be improved with some automation: a relay admin could sign and broadcast a notice that their relay domain (or IP, if the certificate is issued for IP) is outdated and they now recommend some other relay URIs instead (compatible with particular relay lists), so clients could read a notice and suggest replacements (ranked by latency measurements). Or if admin has nothing to recommend, clients could suggest relay replacements based on NIP-66. #devstr #nostr

Is Clave the only #iOS NIP-46 singer published on AppStore/AltStore today? #asknostr And why do we still allow pasting a raw nsec/ncryptsec into the clients? Why? Something is still not working with these signers? Somebody believes that all clients actually securely store the secrets, properly zeroize memory after exiting, and so on? Properly managing these secrets was never an easy thing to do. It should never be delegated to some random vibe-coded stuff, that was not designed specifically for that; very few normal users are capable of understanding the significance of that, yet we happily provide them an input field for nsec like it's something acceptable! This is, BTW, the only signer I'm aware of that hardens memory with `mlock`; there's nothing close to that in normal clients and probably never will be there: https://laantungir.net/git/laantungir/n_signer I've recently had an experience of explaining why pasting nsec should never be practiced with ordinary clients, why it's not the same thing as a changeable password—yet this person pasted it anyway to "fix" something: Armada Android client was failing to publish a NIP-65 relay list. This will never change: if there's a wrong button, it will be pressed for stupid reasons, many times. I think the "nsec SHOULD never be used directly in clients; NIP-46 and NIP-07 SHOULD be used instead" should be written in some NIP already. With blood. #security #devstr nostr:nevent1qqs9jjzlsd858yc97waddzs8l5gjcvzerwme5sfg3psla2ugdt0jmdspz4mhxue69uhhyetvv9ujuerfw36x7tnsw43qmdwlup

This is quite a confusing topic, almost incomprehensible when discussed in text messages. #philosophy #consciousness #spirituality It depends on whether subjectivity is considered totally as a part of reality. If it's something that allows interacting with something *separate* from the reality—that would be the "beyond this reality" (sometimes associated with the concept of "supernatural reality"). I personally prefer to see subjective experience as something totally inseparable from the reality. Otherwise it's a contradiction to the nonduality of the reality and consciousness (a contradiction to the correlation between objective neurological processes and the subjective experiences in particular). Yet, at the same time, the subjectivity is neither identical to objectivity nor does it seem to be reducible to just the related material objects (or might their interactions even). Subjectivity is a real phenomenon of a different level of complexity of the reality, rather than of the pure gross matter. *Roughly* speaking, just as functional programming concepts are not normally understood by thinking in terms of electronic switches (since it's a different level), but at the same time they are not separable from the hardware level (if we mean some program that actually runs on the hardware). You may think of subjectivity as a kind of illusion (which includes bare *modeling* of objective reality with pareidoliac hallucinations, for example), just as FP concepts are some kind of mental conceptual illusion (which may be transformed into something barely related to the executed instructions due to compiler optimizations, completely erased even; existing as some kind of *modeling* of what's actually being run). But by illusion I don't mean the pure non-existence of something or something separable from the existence. I mean some softer version of existence instead that correlates with the lower levels of it. And I don't mean it as some dead source code files that are no longer affecting a running program; there's a two-directional interaction between the levels instead. Also, if you've meant the Terence McKenna stuff—there's an inner world of archetypal DMT/etc. entities (an extended version of something close to night dreams, but not really dreams, rather hypnotic trance states), but it's probably not identical to what he talked about. There are personal and collective archetypes, the edge between them is blurred; yet a DMT trip is not a portal to another level of a literal co-shared objective reality (or separate external kind of reality) with the real objective machine elves. Rather these experiences are of the subjective worlds, still interconnected in some way because we still interact with each other based on these experiences (from the gross sober state later in particular) and influence each others' next experiences: we discuss the experiences, act out of some lessons learned from them, produce art, getting influenced by the art, etc. Not the elves themselves from different tripping persons' experiences are interacting with each other; the *ideas of* the machine elves interact with each other instead (through culture). And perhaps particular purely collective archetypes, besides the cultural influence, have something to do with our genes—the (sometimes atavistic) survival tryptophobia-kind of programs—reactions to certain pattern recognitions that were so important that they were eventually coded into our "hardware" and kept inherited from ancestors. The Angel archetype in particular is directly associated with addressing survival. I once had such a sober non-visual experience in my life: a recognition of a particular unique feminine/masculine-neutral repetitive inner voice (which is impossible to reproduce by human organs) of a particular pitch level, that gives some hope and kind of motivates me to stay away from suicide. I think this archetype is exactly what traditional Christian church choir singing is trying to express. Even though it's definitely a sincerely deep spiritual experience—even that doesn't convince me of the existence of something separate from reality, of some supernatural world. In short: I prefer seeing it as there's nothing beyond this reality (at least I'm not aware of anything falsifiable). Whatever that *seems* separate from the reality is still part of it, but it can't necessarily be understood just by observing the related objects. It may be experienced *as if* it were something separate from the reality and, at the same time, as something co-shared culturally (and even cross-culturally) due to interaction with universal archetypes (traditionally associated with the collective unconscious), and due to the feedback loop to the culture. It seems that complicated to me today.

That's the first thing I thought, if we mean censorship. There's still a cultural influence though, which used to vary on centralized websites, often depending on the preferences of moderators. Now the influence is decentralized and non-moderated; it's no longer a bunch of unrelated websites with different vibes. I still think that both are inevitable: "wrong" people will come here AND will be naturally + algorithmically segregated too (while many of us will ignore all this and will keep building natural connections and ignore toxic in whatever way influence).

It's primarily for humans; I find current AI to be possibly useful only as something additional in this case, not as an initial step towards a first draft: AI doesn't have a (complex enough) body and doesn't experience some chemistry shit the body produces. It's only mimicking some shallow human shit outputs instead, not experiencing the drama that causes humans to make these fuzzy and multi-layered poetic outputs. I can't empathize with pure robotic stuff, can't "live it". Same with occasional posting.

I find the current solution too limited: a full wipe seems even more suspicious to whoever checks the phone; wiping eSIMs may make it useless in case the user wants to contact their lawyer for example. Is that really what the average GrapheneOS user wants? What about selectively clear data for certain applications as an option for example? I hope it's not out of scope of the project and doesn't introduce too much complexity, which I guess you prioritize here. #privacy #grapheneos

> Gary Snyder I'm not familiar, thanks. Love his contrasting self-introduction at the end of the movie. I think it's important to embrace hope in the art of this epoch. Poetry programs us, and if it has the potential for transformations and self-fulfilling prophecies in particular, we'd better care to have a balance of positive and, ideally, truthful, realistic enough kinds of programs. > I get something more out of it each time. Yeah, this is how we distinguish something really deep. Same thing I notice especially from poetry itself, the amateur stuff I do for psychotherapeutic purposes in particular. Reading the same text I've already published almost always unpacks more layers of understanding: not just new meanings but broader meanings, both more connections between parts of a poem and connections with the reality itself. While the first drafts usually seem like very dumb translations of the unconscious; these draft texts may feel almost like total graphomaniac garbage even. I underestimate the complexity of this arational process almost every time.

> You have to build real trust, which means you must expose private information over an online system I've pointed out something close in the article I mentioned: IMO it's possible to achieve a healthy and flexible enough privacy for dating (so people could feel safe to talk to strangers using pseudoanonymous and almost empty npubs, and still not appear as a total stranger/s{p,c}ammer to the system, by exposing the connection between the real trusted npub and the limiting dating one to a trust rank service, that real npub holder chooses themselves). That's the inevitable trade-off: something would need to be exposed in order for such a system to work, but privacy depends a lot on what exactly and who will receive the information. I think it's worth trying to build dating capabilities in Nostr, because the alternative is actually dating apps that do (or will start doing at any moment) the ID-based KYC cringe, which makes things worse for whoever doesn't care that much about privacy. I believe that people will go here if they notice a healthier alternative and if we market it in a particular way. > We consist of less than 10 women While I don't ask for statistics that support this, hopefully non-literal, claim (I see who's naturally attracted here at the moment too), I still don't want it to be some self-fulfilling prophecy. Nostr is not just for male hackers and bitcoiners, and we affect who actually gets attracted to it. For example by making nostr:nprofile1qy2hwumn8ghj7un9d3shjtnyv9kh2uewd9hj7qgkwaehxw309aex2mrp0yhxg6t5w3hjuur4vghsqgxy5w039yffr4zjgpwd3hwhnrz29x3ctrzje5xcg0cldpfv79mg9cvxdh93 (I'm still impressed it hit the 10k TestFlight limit in a few hours!) or possibly some dating app too. > If you have used any of the "fringe" but popular dating apps/websites you find one "woman" within 100 miles of you > they simply don't work for the majority of users I hear it all the time, ah. I haven't been doing this since all the AI psychosis started in particular, but anyway, for some reason I was always lucky with these dating services. I found my significant other about 5 years ago using one of them, just as one of the examples. And I'm in my mid 30s right now. But that was not in the US.

One binary, that's awesome. So you decided to make a native app? Why deal with the web-based stuff at all then? Browser engines are coming with frustrating resources overhead IMO, with weird hacks (chrome://gpu) that eventually break due to some driver update. And the programming languages are quite... limited. Do you still want to make it compatible with browsers for some reason? Or do you want to rely on Electron as something stable, that "just works" on major platforms? Or due to the existing code base?

That seems to be exaggerated: if he at least managed to get off his clothes and wash his body immediately, that'd be far from taking such an amount orally. 80 million of typical 100 mcg dosages is 8 kg of liquid. Drinking such an amount of water alone would be lethal.

> pretty weird, true, but you have to admit that being able to store your software repo and app to view it as your banner image is pretty cool > We have these huge corporate-sponsored ecosystems with millions of people running it. Layers on frameworks on layers on frameworks... for what? Yeah, I think you built a cool thing; I'm not complaining by calling it weird, just in case 👍 I'm pretty much coming from the same position: we either build cool stuff and maintain ourselves (or by a limited number of hackers) or build the hell fractals maintainable by larger teams of people who are focused on getting things done in a harsh way, which inevitably comes to a crisis we see in frontend development today. > Below is a capture from my terminal Thanks! I was able to verify and run it but got "The integrity of the Floppy PNG that houses this site cannot be confirmed by retrieving the public key from the current website". I find it challenging to debug it because all my text editors can't handle the `site.txt`. ``` Uncaught (in promise) TypeError: can't access property "addEventListener", document.getElementById(...) is null verify http://127.0.0.1:8080/page.html line 15 > injectedScript:3102 async* http://127.0.0.1:8080/page.html line 15 > injectedScript:3148 <anonymous> http://127.0.0.1:8080/page.html:15 promise callback* http://127.0.0.1:8080/page.html:12 promise callback* http://127.0.0.1:8080/page.html:11 page.html line 15 > injectedScript:3102:14 verify http://127.0.0.1:8080/page.html line 15 > injectedScript:3102 AsyncFunctionNext self-hosted:780 (Async: async) <anonymous> http://127.0.0.1:8080/page.html line 15 > injectedScript:3148 <anonymous> http://127.0.0.1:8080/page.html:15 (Async: promise callback) <anonymous> http://127.0.0.1:8080/page.html:12 (Async: promise callback) <anonymous> http://127.0.0.1:8080/page.html:11 ```

Just curious, what's the next step in your repo extraction quest after extracting the huge scary `site.txt`? It appears to be a frontend js without some ready way to load it. Verification script fails with `Error: "publicKey" expected Uint8Array of length 32, got type=string` for me. What's the pubkey format expected? Tried hex as txt and as binary. I wouldn't load the pubkey from file at all if possible. It also fails with `ERR_PACKAGE_PATH_NOT_EXPORTED` to me unless the following changes are made: ```patch -import { sha256 } from "@noble/hashes/sha2"; -import { schnorr } from "@noble/curves/secp256k1"; +import { sha256 } from "@noble/hashes/sha2.js"; +import { schnorr } from "@noble/curves/secp256k1.js"; ``` Thanks for building the weird thing anyway, it's interesting.

It depends on why and to what degree you want to make this specific fact private. Depends on what you are risking if the fact leaks out. What are you risking in the potential future as well. Descartes Square might partially help with the decision if you're looking for an abstract tool. Many people are pseudo-anonymous online, but it doesn't mean they don't have a close circle of people they trust, who care about boundaries, care which facts are okay to share or not. My uncle always kept his birthday a secret. Only a few family members know it, probably accidentally. But his reason is innocent: if I remember right, he doesn't like when people give him presents. https://image.nostr.build/62f2f4a8d6c18ee576749c18e6e6deb57b64289d446aed9c9dcc08b7733dc3eb.jpg I prefer to keep my birthday a secret as well, partially for a similar reason, but I think I'm not risking very much if it leaks out. I'm actually not even pseudo-anonymous; I chose different privacy boundaries. I don't celebrate my birthday because I can't perceive it as some achievement. It felt very much like an achievement in the past; it will likely feel like an achievement in the future, but right now I perceive other things more valuable to celebrate than birthdays.

It took me a while to process the experience and properly articulate the last sections of the article. And it may keep unpacking. I must admit I've rarely participated as a peacemaker in whatever interpersonal conflicts in my life. I was usually more on aggressive side. Somehow I was lucky to be able to stay away from performing aggression in public online spaces. Love the toughest conflicts; they are teachers. Love your opponent without losing yourself, if you still believe they are an opponent at all. "If you hate a person, then you're defeated by them." I'm probably wrong but I interpret Alex's post as a kind, ironical, and provocative invitation for improvement of DMs implementation. At least to me, something doesn't feel right about White Noise yet, but it's close to what Signal (and SimpleX) do in terms of privacy. nostr:nevent1qvzqqqqqqypzpm7zkmjefq8su4wvslrf4urtd5dpr739un4ftfpes7xyz7vu20qeqyv8wumn8ghj7mn0wd68ytnrdajx7mnpve6zucm0d5q3vamnwvaz7tmjv4kxz7fwwpexjmtpdshxuet5qyxhwumn8ghj7mn0wvhxcmmvqqsqq0hj0lx67y35s0qqdqhmfrmugxr4lvqwx9stv0p0ej9wz4rjhhcnvcasu

Especially if you are dyslexic, which book narration software do you prefer? I'd like something FOSS for GNU/Linux that can ideally do well - reading with expression - speedup up to ~4x - properly parse weird doc structure with footers/headers/columns/etc. - (in a non-disruptive way) notify when a related picture becomes visible - the more supported formats, the better Easier to vibe code it already? Nothing worked for me in the past. I keep reading manually when I have capacity. Still a torture to me. #asknostr

I find this default behavior in White Noise slightly disturbing: https://github.com/marmot-protocol/whitenoise/issues/528 Not sure why there are not auth-only relays. NIP-42 auth per session doesn't work yet, or/and properly working NIP-42 relays are not really that common yet? Forward secrecy doesn't really work when NIP-42 is not a requirement for NIP-59 gift wraps: either you or your buddy may expose them with these default relays for example. Similar issue with the NIP-46 signers: private events exposed in the wild https://github.com/fiatjaf/nak/issues/116 If you're building a signer, please consider testing/making it compatible with NIP-42 relays and optionally making it show a warning if it's connected over a non-auth relay (or specifically a relay that exposes kind 24133 events). #devstr #privacy #whitenoise

> Because doesn’t the protocol assume that messages propagate to other relays as well? There's at least a mention of NIP-70 (protected events) in the MIP-00. Perhaps NIP-70 could be a requirement for all Marmot events? I also find it scary that Marmot allows usage of relays that don't require NIP-42 auth. Almost all events should be private IMO; the auth should be required whenever possible. > or controlling the whole stack (incl relays). > How does running my own relay solve that problem exactly? How would I then ensure that my messages are not being stored by any other relay? If you're using NIP-42 auth whenever possible, control your client and relay (you're sure the relay and your client won't propagate events to unexpected relays, and the client will actually remove the events)—only your DM buddy with their unexpected relay list or broken client would be able to propagate the events to unexpected relays. The broken client is not something controllable in the FOSS world. An immutable list of relays that all sides of communication explicitly chose to use for the conversation still could be possible. But at some point these relays will be outdated for example, so a new conversation would need to be created. Feels like a wrong complication. Any better ideas?

You mean the PACs? To some degree, yes. Compared to the use of an isolated browser profile per proxy, the trade-off is that multiple of your IPs might be associated when you visit a website with mixed content loaded through multiple proxies, so it's still a risk to end up banned somewhere due to "suspicious" activity (which is normal internet usage today).

I'm surprised nobody has reported this yet; at least I wasn't able to find it. If you were wondering why some nostriches choose Firefox-based browsers—for instance because Firefox currently has stable proxy connection support compared to Chromium-based browsers. https://issues.chromium.org/issues/492069660 It's not that obvious it's broken. Most websites work fine because they don't create so many WS connections. It's also sad that none of the browsers currently support the UDP part of the Socks5 protocol. It should be useful for HTTP/3.
